A Message
from Mike
I wish I could say when I wrote these songs, I was a bold man of God, full of the Holy Spirit, sinless to the core, however that is not how this story goes. I have been a song writer since my early 20s, however back then all I could write were love songs, heartbreak songs, beer drinking songs and other likeminded melodies. It turned out I could only write about what was in me. Whenever I would attempt to write a Christian worship song about God's love, something else would come out and it was not Christian or about Him or His son. So, I stopped trying.
Over the years I started working on my faith, going to church, attending bible studies and trying to behave like a good Christian should. God opened doors and I got involved in the church more, got on the worship team and even started singing backup a little bit. I still tried every now and then to write a Christian song, but nothing of worth would come out.
After years of growing and getting stronger in my faith, totally enjoying singing songs about the Lord and my role in the church, I fell in my Christian walk and hurt a number of people I loved. Even though I asked for forgiveness from those I hurt, and cried out to the Lord to forgive me, I could not forgive myself and felt I was in a slimy dark pit, and I could not get out. In my darkest hour as a Christian, feeling totally disconnected from the Lord, instead of turning His back on me, one day when I picked up my guitar, the Holy Spirit overshadowed me and gave me a song. The song came out in a matter of minutes from beginning to end. I could not believe what just happened. It was not just an ordinary worship song; it was a toe tapping song that glorified the Lord in a unique way. I could not wait to share the song with the worship team and the church congregation.
After we rehearsed the song, we played it during worship. I told everyone the Lord had given me a song and they must of thought I was crazy. Up until that point, I had not written or even sang a song as the lead singer. As I sang the song, I could tell from the looks on the congregations faces they loved it, some even stood up and started dancing in the aisles. When the song was over, the Holy Spirit was present in that place, and everyone could feel it. It was amazing!
Not knowing what was going on or if I could even write another worship song, songs started coming to me as I drove down the road or sitting in my office. I could look at my guitar leaning against the bedroom wall and say to it, "if I pick you up, I know a song will come out." I would pick it up, sit on the edge of the bed and an entire song would pop out with chords and words. Psalm 40:3 “He put a new song in my mouth.”
Without thinking about it, the songs started slowly lifting me up out of my pit and showed me God's amazing love. And for the first time in a long time, I started to feel that I was forgiven. It was like a dark cloud was slowly lifting off of me and I was being dusted off to get back into the battle. I picked up my cross, which I had dropped and started boldly sharing the songs the Lord had given me. This CD are those songs.
I knew God wanted the songs to be shared with others like you. However, every time I attempted to record the CD, something would stop me in my tracks. Eventually, I stopped trying and knew I needed to wait on the Lord. Psalm 27:14 “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord” so I did. I waited for years. I knew God had a special time in mind when the world would need to hear these songs. Meaning, I knew years ago that the world was going to get worse, a lot worse than it already was and the Lord was going to use the message in these songs to dust others off and use them in a mighty way for His glory.
As things around us started to implode, God opened the door, and I knew the time was right for the world to hear the message of God’s love, forgiveness, hope and salvation found in these unique songs. These songs are a message to you and me from the Lord to get right with the Lord, time is short, remember the battle is His and we are meant to be warriors of Christ, not spectators sitting on the sidelines. Let’s put on the whole armor of the Lord and get in the battle. Pick up your cross for the battle is at your door! Zephaniah 1:14 "For the day of the Lord is coming; it is near!" So, share the good news about the Gospels truth of God's love. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Others are waiting to hear this truth. God Bless!
